Karen Bendelman has a bachelor's degree in Educational Psychology, specializing in learning disabilities and a Master's in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in gifted education. She has over 10 years of experience working closely with schools, teachers, and families, providing support and advising on how to best meet the child’s educational, social and emotional needs. She has worked for several programs for gifted students in the United States and Latin America. Before joining the board of the California Association for the Gifted, Karen was a delegate at the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children. Karen was a pioneer in her native Uruguay in the professional development of teachers to work with gifted students and worked as a lecturer at the University of Montevideo before moving back to the United States. Karen has worked as a consultant in gifted education for governments in Latin America and the Middle East. Karen regularly presents her work in international conferences and has co-authored a chapter in the American Psychological Association Handbook of Giftedness and Talent as well as two books on the subject in Spanish. Karen is currently the Director of Academics at Helios School, an independent school for gifted students in North California.
