Gifted students’ abilities to learn HOW to learn is equally and some times more significantly important than WHAT to learn.
Strategies that illustrate how to integrate “learning to learn” into a differentiated curriculum will be demonstrated as a set of skills to be taught as a preface to or within the structure of curriculum studies.

The concept of “finding the right match” underscores this concept of differentiation. Students are provided with a set of puzzle pieces from which they can independently or with teacher assistance complete a “differentiated composition” to challenge their learning in any subject area.

Interdisciplinary Instruction: Differentiation, Demonstration and Discussion
The session features an introduction to the importance and challenges of interdisciplinarity as a dimension of differentiation. Examples of math, English language arts, social studies, and art will be presented to show how each may be linked to other disciplines in an interdisciplinary fashion. Each demonstration will be followed by a reflection from the other panelists who will share insights regarding the why, what, and how of developing and implementing interdisciplinary instruction.

Multiple Meanings, Central Theme, Critical and Creative Thinking, Inferences, etc. strategies will be demonstrated to compliment any type of reading resources across genre. These strategies have been specifically designed for their adaptability to SPED, English Learners and Gifted and Advanced Readers in the same classroom. The undergirding idea is: “ALL students should have access to advanced reading experiences.”
