Teaching Social Justice and Activism through Literature
Limited Capacity seats available

Our youngest learners are often the most unbiased ones. They are also open to learning new things and are very accepting of others, while still easily influenced (by families, friends, their school community, etc.). They are also learning how to navigate in our ever-changing world, trying to understand their place and how they can make a difference. In our presentation, we will go through some valuable resources (mainly through books) when teaching gifted students about social justice and activism (others and themselves). We will also discuss where the prompts can fit into utilizing books to teach social justice and activism. Participants will leave the presentation with a list of book titles which can be used in their classrooms to teach social justice and activism, as well as examples from classroom experiences.
