Discover the power of asking good questions to develop students’ depth of thinking and engage in rigorous academic discourse! Kelly Emanuel will introduce and model a sequence of Inquiry-Based learning activities with a text of high complexity. Participants will actively engage in pre-reading activities, close reading, and a seminar-style discussion. They will have their own authentic experience of sharing ideas about the meaning of a text, supporting those ideas with textual evidence and weighing ideas to arrive at well-supported interpretations. After the demonstration, the group will reflect on the research-based strategies modeled, and how nimble questioning and high-impact lessons promote authentic engagement, academic rigor, and critical thinking.
